Become a River Watch Volunteer in Colorado

Who are the River Watch volunteers?

River Watch of Colorado volunteers come in all shapes and sizes. School groups, watershed monitoring groups, community groups, and individuals all serve as watershed stewardship volunteers. Some groups monitor multiple sites on as many rivers; others focus on one specific site in their region. The common link between them all is their appreciation and dedication to the waters of Colorado. If you have a sincere interest and desire to become a River Watch volunteer, we welcome your efforts and will do all we can to get you involved.

What do
volunteers do?

Because of the nature of our program's adherence to scientific methodologies, volunteers are required to commit to sampling once a month on their respective sites for a continuous year. River Watch staff will provide training and equipment to the volunteer and provide continuous support and supplies to ensure your program’s success.

How can I
get involved?

River Watch of Colorado trainings provide an opportunity for your organization to become volunteer water quality monitors in Colorado.

Interested volunteers must participate in training before becoming part of our program. After the training, groups agree to sample at a designated station monthly for metals, nutrients, and other parameters. As water quality data must be recorded over time to understand the baseline conditions and any changes that occur in the system, we are seeking volunteers that can make a several-year commitment to the program.
